Where exactly is Hexham?

Hexham, a small and beautiful market city, is situated to the south of river Tyne in Tyne valley, Northumberland, England. The town of Hexham is surrounded by a couple of other small towns like Riding Mill, Corbridge, Wylam and Stocksfield towards the east of the town, Allendale sits on the southern end, Haydon Bridge and Haltwhistle are towns to the west, and Acomb and Bellingham to the north. The town is also in close proximity to Newcastle.

Sights in Hexham

Arguably the most notable of all the sights is the Hexham Abbey. This historic relic in the town was constructed as far back as 675 AD under the instruction of St Wilfred. After its construction the crypt has been rebuilt over again a couple of times.

Also notable within Hexham are a pair of towers that date back to the dark ages, the Hexham old Gaol and Moot Hall. The Moot Hall is a gate house that used to be used as a defense center for the town; the old Gaol used to be a jail and was built back in the 14th century under the instruction of Archbishop of York.
